ENOUGH TO MAKE YOU CRY

I thought that I had written my last piece on Mr. Floyd’s death and the demonstrations that followed, but then the US Congress had a hearing with Attorney General Barr. I watched some of it and it was enough to make a person cry. The Democratic members would rant and rave at him, and when they did ask a question they refused to allow Mr. Barr to answer. They told him that he was infringing on their allotted time. Member after member attacked him with venom and complete disrespect. His abasement was complete, and the threat of removal from office by impeachment mentioned often. His crime was trying to enforce the rule of law, and the Democrats took the side of the rioters, looters, firebombers and those who were guilty of assault and even murder. The rule of law became a political scam that only the Republicans seemed interested in. They made the mayor of Portland a hero because he said the demonstrations there were peaceful. The constant attempt to damage the US Courthouse at 3:00 a.m. was not considered, and the federal policemen who are guarding it were called “storm troopers” after the Nazi Storm Troopers in WWII.

It was difficult to watch grown men and women who had taken an oath of office to uphold the Constitution and protect their constituents to completely disregard the citizens whom they represented and maul a good man for political power and their hatred of the president. I have watched the Congress debate issues for many years and always heard very professional speeches with good English and the decorum you would expect from our leaders. While Biden keeps saying our country needs leadership, these congressmen and women showed the complete opposite. Those watching and agreeing with them would believe that the destruction of other people’s property is justified when they disagree with something. Burning a federal courthouse has no expected solution to any problem with race or the police departments. It just causes taxpayers to have to pay for a new one. Burning local businesses and looting them also does not help solve a racial problem and probably has a negative effect on those who watch it or are the ones losing their businesses.

Civil rights belong to all Americans and cannot be given to one race or class of people. The “African” should be removed from African American, and those using it should become Americans. I would never think of calling myself a Scottish American. My wife has never called herself an Italian American. We are Americans because we were born here, period. I’m sick of hearing about White men and Black men. I want to hear about human. The fact that Black lives do matter as well as all other lives has no negative, but the group that uses the name doesn’t seem to care about Black lives except when they are involved with the police. The killing in the large cities such as Chicago, Baltimore, Los Angeles, New York and St. Louis are exempt from their demonstrations and the mayhem they cause. If their care was really for Black lives, they would be in those cities and working with kids and helping to keep them out of gangs and off of drugs. They could be removing guns from those who are doing the killing, but that would be too much work with no publicity. Most of the demonstrations that have turned to riots are politically motivated and done by hate groups. I would like to welcome them to one-way tickets to the country that they do like.

I am still numb from the actions of the Congress and the abhorrent way in which they treated the US attorney general. Backing criminals and those who are tearing down our beautiful country makes them close to terrorists and guilty of sedition. It is even sadder that many of them will get reelected this fall and continue to hate everything that they disagree with. There is no room for debate or other ideas in their ideology of hatred and elitism. At my age I will not have to put up with people like this much longer, but I say daily prayers for my children and grandchildren. Their America is completely different than the one that I grew up in. Their opportunities are limited, and only the politicians will have a chance to prosper as they do now. May God help us.
