AMERICA BANKRUPT MAYBE

The letters to the editor have been negative with regards to Trump since the election. The latest being about the tariffs and deportations. The democrats are also completely negative but without any alternative solutions other than keep spending even if it continues the fraud and misuse of funds. There has been no mention of the deficit and its future problems for the country if it continues to grow. Last year with a 5 trillion dollar budget we spent 7 trillion. At this rate we would be bankrupt in less than ten years. Well maybe not bankrupt for a country but if we  were a US company with this spending versus income we would be bankrupt already and out of business. Countries that have reached the pace where their economy cannot produce what they spend like Venezuela, have seen their currency fall to levels that we cannot imagine. Our spending could cause inflation of double digits and the dollar to become worthless to the rest of the world. The price of eggs would not be just at $10 but could reach $100. The everyday working person that relies on their elected officials to regulate our economy and spending will become aware that they have been hoodwinked and swindled.

Very few people in the world can imagine what a trillion dollars are let alone a billion. We have left our government representatives to take care of the budgets for us and expect they do understand the large number of dollars they are manipulating through taxation and spending. Unfortunately, that is not happening but the reverse. Our representatives have decided to look at the present with no expectation for the future consequences. The constant spending to gain votes has become habitual and the power of the office has outweighed their sworn duty to represent us with good government. If you look at our annual budget, it is dominated by three expenditures: (1) National defense, (2) Social Security and (3) Medicare and Medicade.  The rest of the budget is made up of many other items but after the first three there is very little area for spending outside of just running the government. Any elected government person that tries to reform any of the first three will be voted out of office very quickly, so no one has the courage to try. We are stuck with a huge budget that is tied to these great expenditures and there is no way at present to change this enigma.

An example of what is happening to us as we quietly ignore it is as follows. A family of four earns $1000.00 per week but spends $1400.00, with $400.00 being borrowed. With interest at 5% this becomes $50.00 per year and when this spending is done each week for a year suddenly, have borrowed $20,800 with $1.040 due in interest. Now imagine this for ten years without paying anything but the interest. We would owe $208,000.00 with an interest payment of$10.040.00 each year. The problem with this example is that the government has increased the deficit each year and the interest now is nearly equal to our total defense budget. It is unsustainable in the future years when very soon the interest amount will be greater than the total budget needed to run the country.

When you hear a politician cry that he can't cut his budget you have to know that he is saying that he doesn't care about the future of the country. He or she is the problem and not the budget needed. We have to cut our spending to preserve our country and its future  and we need to do in now.
