WEIGHTS&MEASURES MAYBE

The start of Proverb 11 in the King James Bible states "A false balance is abomination to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight." I happened to read this Proverb just before changing the toilet paper roll in the bathroom. I noticed that the roll holder was one and a half inches wider than the roll. My new roll had been made smaller and that probably happened a long time ago. We do not notice many of the slight changes that manufacturers and marketers do to their products and we still pay the same price. Their profits increase at our expense and it is legal because they reflect the change on their labels which many of us do not read. Beer drinkers might notice that some of their twelve ounce bottles have become ten and a half ounce but look the same. Saving that one an a half ounces allows the bottlers to sell more bottles from the same size vat as before the change. Putting your finger on the scale as they used to say was one way of cheating customers but was illegal so just change the quantity a little and reflect it in the fine print on the label and you have achieved the same thing but you are legal. It has been happening for years and maybe hundreds of years but the first time I noticed was years ago as a kid buying candy bars. They were five cents but started to get smaller.  It was only a few years that many candy bars had shrunk buy a third but by then the price had risen to twenty five cents.

STIMULUS OF WHAT

Just read the Sunday paper and found a full page ad telling us what a good job Joe Manchin did by voting for the stimulus package and giving us another $1400. We were to think that this legislation was all for us and Manchin made it possible. His vote was necessary and could have stopped it but he went against the wishes of his state and voted the way Shumer told him to. Joe doesn't represent us because he is a pawn of Chuck and Nancy. The article did not tell us about what else the bill provides and that is about 90% of the total amount of the 1.9 trillion made available. Yes the stimulus package is 10% for covid relief and 90% to buy future votes for the democratic party.

WHY ABBA

I listen to very little music now because radio stations are not playing anything that I like. Do not like rap and do not think it is music rather ugly poetry with a drum beat. I guess that if you recited a Shakespeare sonnet real fast and played the drums at the same time it would be classified as music. I still would not like it.  I started piano lessons in the first grade, the violin in the second grade and the tuba in the sixth grade. Stayed with the tuba and received a music scholarship in my junior year by playing "Carnival of Venice" at a state contest. I did not want to be a music teacher so skipped the scholarship and went for chemistry. During my school years there was very little listening time on the radio and most of my music was classical or Church. Later I started to listen to Elvis, Doris Day and most of the bands playing in the fifties and sixties. When I bought a record it was classical, broadway or big band. I never collected the popular music of the day. My favorite classical music was the pipe organ and I had records then cds and now nothing but what I can download on my I-phone and then play them via Bluetooth in my car. I tried the satellite radio but the selections of classical were very slim and repeating what I heard in my younger days did not appeal to me. I had been tuned to music written by the masters and couldn't get used to less than that. Growing up much of the new music was actually taken from classical pieces and I used them to teach my daughters to listen to classical. In the seventies there were four songs taken from the 1812 Overture and "Stranger in Paradise" was taken from the Russian composer Borodin. I played both the classical and the broadway version to convince them that popular music and classical were much more alike than they thought. They wore out some of my LPs after that.

RECALL MANCHIN MAYBE

The first democracy that I ever heard about was in ancient Greece. It failed because it was impossible for every citizen to vote on each problem that arose. The first republic that I ever heard of was ancient Rome. it failed and became a dictatorship because the citizens did not vote for those representing them. The first instance of religious freedom in history was when a Prussian king allowed religious dissent. Jefferson and Adams read about all of these types of government along with many more. The result that they decided upon was the republic that elected the representatives and the head of state by the citizens being governed. The representatives were expected to represent their respective electorate. Well that is what is suppose to happen but as Jefferson was afraid of political parties we now can see why. The party has become more important than those electing the representatives.

THE NEW UNITY

The campaign by Joe Biden from his cellar promised that if he were elected he would unite America and reach out to both sides of the isle. There would be a new unity and bringing people together was his greatest priority. Well he was elected and the new unity has started to be realized by at least half of the country. One of Biden's prior statements was that Trump was acting like a dictator by using Executive Orders. I guess Biden has decided to be a bigger dictator than Trump since he has surpassed Trump by many the number of Executive Orders that he has signed. In fact he has surpassed all of the previous presidents in trying to rule by fiat.  I do not quite understand this action because he has both houses of Congress to pass his wishes but he can't wait or those pulling his strings such as Susan Rice and Valery Jarret are in a hurry to erase  anything that Trump did before anyone realizes that the country needed it.
