When I started first grade the second world war was raging and it was 1943. It was well known that German citizens were turning their neighbors in to the Nazis for any anti speech or actions which would result in their neighbors arrest. I remember June, 1944, when I was finishing the second grade, one day our teacher, Mrs. Ellis, cried all day and we all tried to console her. I later found out that her husband was in the first wave on Omaha Beach in the allied European landing. We finally defeated the Nazis and heard about all of the terrible tragedies that had occurred.
I lived through the Cold War with the USSR and remember that Russian citizens were turning in their neighbors for any action or speech that they thought was antigovernment. The neighbor was arrested and sent to the Gulags for twenty years if they could live that long. We now see a China that monitors speech and actions very closely and arrests anyone that they deem anti the CCP. Most of the totalitarian governments have started by limiting speech, religion and any actions that are anti to the government thought. The thought that this would come to America was never in my mind since we have been fighting wars from the Revolution to keep the freedom of speech and religion as part of our culture. The idea that this would happen to us from within never crossed my mind but that is just what is happening now.
This last week the Minnesota legislature put forth a bill to establish a bias data base. Anyone that was heard protesting against someone else or even saying that the Corona virus came from China would be put into this data base. Do you think this sounds like Nazi Germany. The USSR, or today's China? It not only sounds like it it is the same tactic that they used to silence any dissent against those in power. We are being attacked from within and are doing very little about it. The hatred and divisesness that has been generated by our politicians and the wokeness is fueling the need to quiet the opposition rather; than listen and learn. Our educational institutions have caved in to the lefts idea of socialism and have forgot how they attained their positions through the lives of many that fought for their freedom to do what ever they wanted. We hear of teachers being fired because they disaagreed with the administration on gender identity cases and the teaching of critical race theory. This week two teachers sued their administrtions because they were not allowed to notify parents of children's wishes to change gender as the school helped them do so. It is scary that you cannot trust your public school to care for your children and be open to their parents right to raise them. We see that math and reading scores are falling quickly as the teacher's unions and administrations would rather indoctriate Kids rather than teach them the 3rs.
It is dangerous to say anything in public that goes counter current to the left's agenda without being chastised about it or in many cases put out of work. The media capitalises on any thing they deem to be right wing and call it extreme while failing to report on those actions taken that are endangering us in our cities such as DAs that refuse to prosecute criminals. The St. Louis DA just doesn't show up in court for a trial which lately the judge has threatened her with action. The trial was a prosecution of a man for an assault on an 11 year old girl. Fox reported this while all of the other news outlets failed to mention it. At the same time Fox is being portrayed as an extreme right outlet because they keep telling stories that the left leaning outlets fail to report to protect a failed president and administration.
Many examples of bias against speech and religion have occured such as the football coach that prayed after his games and was fired for it. The Supreme Court later forced his re-instatement and reversed the school's actions. This was just one of many attacks on our religious freedom and at the same time we find many public schools have installed Muslim prayer rooms for students with out any Christian or Jewish parents knowledge. The one good thing that has happened is that new charter schools and private schools have been started to give parents a choice but they are not coming fast enough and many cannot afford them. Our only way that we can combat this left movement is to vote for people that share our values instead of a party label. Hopefully this will start to happen soon.
